Coaching - Good? Bad?
Variable?
It
is now commonplace for executives to have a coach. It’s
almost “de rigour”. But with anything new the
quality and effectiveness of the coaches can fall into any
of the above. How then to get the best out of a coaching
assignment? Firstly, clearly stated and agreed objectives
are a must between the executive and the coach.
This can
start life as a conversation and exchange of ideas but at
some point must be documented and agreed by both parties.
Secondly is there an honest rapport between the two parties?
If the chemistry isn’t there then neither will the
results materialise. Finally commitment and hard work – again
this applies to both parties and the executive in particular
needs to make time for the appointments, do the assignments
conscientiously and put careful thought into the desired
outcomes with an open mind.
